Landscaping With Rock
Rock as a natural material is the strongest of all the materials known to man and hence single long time being used as a building material. In historic times stone and rocks are being used
extensively for building huge castles, churches even pyramids of Egypt.
However rocks are also used for small landscaping projects with great creativity. Here are some of the probable uses for
landscaping with rock.

1) Compound walls - Because of it's strong and tough nature rock is a great way to build a compound wall. Since the
primary function of a compound wall is security, a rock is a great material for this.
2) Pathways - Pathways or walkways in gardens can be easily built using rock slabs or even chips of rocks as fillers just like gravel.
3) Ponds - Fishponds in the backyard can add great excitement in the garden
rocks can be used as a decorative element at the
bottom of the freshwater ponds.
4) Statues - Statues crafted out of black rock can add human touch to your garden. Statues of all sizes from small to big an be crafted out of rocks. If you visit any
Japanese gardens you will find extensive use of rocks as a decorating element.
5) Patios - Medium sized patios can be build using rock masonry as a basic frame. Slabs of rock
are great as a natural element.
6) Retaining walls - retaining walls are constructed if you want to do landscaping on a hillside or a sloping ground. The retaining wall
constructed out of rocks help to retain the soil in position which is required for healthy growth of plants.
7) Cladding - Rock chips converted into tile shapes can be used as a cladding material
on the outside faces of the house building. If you gave a backyard garden then the visible face of the house can be covered with rock cladding tile.
8) Rock gardens - Apart from from all uses landscaping with rock, the rock garden is the most
popular. A rock garden with creative use of water is a great way to create focus
s in the garden. Because of rough nature of rock and the smooth nature of water, a rock garden creates a great contrast of textures.
Also the sound of water flowing through the rocks adds a natural touch to the entire
garden. Rock garden works best in indoor lobbies of buildings, where areas are limited in size.
