Landscaping Small yards
When it comes to landscaping
small yards the first thing comes up is scarcity of space. Because of this
the use of large fishponds and fountains is of no use here.
The real challenge is in creating an illusion of more space using simple
landscaping elements. There are two easy ways to do it. Of course there are any
more ways but these are two that you can use if you want to.
1) Create a stepped terrace like
arrangement and create a container garden. The steps you need to create need not
be big steps. Small steps can work here.
But why create a stepped garden in the first step?
That's because creating steps will add more "visual planes" creating
an illusion of more space. Also a container garden will be very cost effective.
2) The second alternative would be to go for pathways with curved lines. If you
don't want to use pathways or if the space is too small, give a curved shape to
the flowerbed curbing that runs along the compound wall. Curved lines create an
illusion of more space than straight lines.
The corner of the small yard area can be utilized by creating a rock
garden .Again the main function of the rock garden is to break the solid visual
space and creating a free flowing visual balance that gives the illusion of more
space.
