Landscaping Planning
Planning a project before it gets started is a great
habit in itself. Not only landscaping, but in any field planning will help you achieve your goal in shortest possible time and save you money.
It is a common saying the "Failing To Plan Is planning To Fail" and is true in every sense.
Landscaping planning is no different. Every landscape architect just does that, plans the entire process of erecting a garden and executes various activities as per the plan to achieve
maximum possible results in the minimum time.
|
|
The landscaping planning starts with the
observation of the land first. While observing the land notes are taken with respect to various aspects such as
-
North direction
-
Wind directions and wind speed
-
Shape and dimensions of the plot
-
Whether the plot is flat or sloping
-
Nature of soil
-
Presence of external influential
factors (railway track, tall buildings, etc.)
-
Access to the plot (A corner plot
will have roads on two sides)
-
Excising elements in the plot (Big tree in the center)
-
Annual rainfall records
After such observations, requirements of the owner will be
discussed. This stage is very important because the owner is asking for too much it can be noted down for trying out while design stage.
This completes the raw data required to prepare the first design sketch. The design sketch may include the
landscaping plan alternatives, a few 3d sketches using a landscaping
design software or even rough hand draw sketches with general notifications of the plants.
After the approval from the client or the owner it is necessary to create a schedule of activities on the plot. This is where
landscaping planning comes into picture. Such kind of schedule can save a lot of time and money (and headache too). Why is a schedule important?
Let's say you lay a beautiful walkway in your backyard landscaping garden as per the design and now is the time to build a water fountain. But the plumbing guy tells you that the
minimum length required for the water supply pipe must go under the walkway in order to save cost of plumbing.
So this situation calls for digging out your beautiful walkway for laying the plumbing system.
Oh, what a waste of time and money.
That's why plan your entire execution. Your execution may include
-
Electrical system for landscaping lighting
-
Plumbing system for water ponds and fountains
-
Foundations for other masonry work
-
Marking out areas for lawn, pathways, ponds, play areas, etc.
-
When to buy plants from the nursery
-
When to buy cement bags needed. Cements bags
need a dry storage area. If stored in damp areas can ruin the entire bags easily.
So in this way landscaping planning is a must and can save you a lot of time. Planning before the work starts is in
itself is a good practice in any field.
