Landscaping Borders

Any landscaping garden is an arrangement of spaces with interrelation in them. This is true with all types of landscaped spaces whether it's your home or any commercial space. Any landscaping architect will first analyze the space from various aspects such as number of people using the space, it's surroundings such indoors or outdoor, climatic conditions and clearly define the spaces.

However in order to maintain the individuality of every landscaping space it is necessary to use landscaping borders. Let's look at some of the landscaping borders that can make a huge difference in your garden

Landscaping borders can be of two types in general.

1) Soft landscaping borders
2) Hard landscaping borders

1) Soft landscaping borders

As the name suggest the landscaping borders erected using any type of vegetation comes under this category. Some examples are flowerbeds, bushes of medium height etc. These types pf landscaping borders can also be used along the boundaries of the garden as a visual buffer.

For example if you have lawn abutting your house building, a flowerbed can act as a buffer between the lawn and the brick external wall. One of the biggest advantage of this type of borders is that they can take any rounded shapes as well.

2) Hard landscaping borders

In this type as the name suggest hard materials are used. In most case 3 alternatives are available.

a) Brick b) Stone c) Concrete

Brick landscaping borders can be created by using bricks along the edge of the border. In this type sometimes bricks are laid at 45 degrees angle for creating some excitement.

Stone landscaping borders have the same principle as brick borders. However there is one disadvantage of using brick and stone landscaping borders. In both these types the adjacent pieces of either brick or stone are connected using mortar. After a few years these joints can become weak and the border can break it's continuity giving an ugly look.

Concrete borders are great types of borders because extruded concrete can be used to create a joint less border onsite itself. Many companies offer such services.
