A driveway whether it is inside your plot or in a public space has basically two types of landscaping features, the soft landscaping and the hard landscaping.

Hard landscaping as the name suggests is the elements by which the driveway gets constructed. depending upon the nature of vehicular traffic the hard landscaping material will change. A heavy traffic road will have concrete slabs or tar finished road, on the other hand a driveway inside a home plot where traffic is very little will have small blocks of concrete fixed on a gravel bed . Normally these blocks have interlocking design so that they don't dislocate from their position.

Soft landscaping on driveways have plenty of options. Depending upon the length and width of driveway a beautiful arrangement can be made that create s vista formation towards the house building. You can have flowerbeds planted in low height walls along the length of the driveway. This type of arrangement creates a visual attention toward the point where the driveway leads.

Sometimes in small house plots the driveway may not lead to an entrance porch. In small houses where porch is not a part of the architectural design , the driveway directly leads to the garage. In such cases you can break the flow of the parallel flowerbed and merge into the front yard landscaping feature such as a small fountain etc.

It is not always necessary to use flowerbeds along the driveway. Just because you have a long length of road does not mean that you must plant flowerbeds along it's entire length. you can even gave a simple wooden fence running along the road. This works fine in cases where the driveway end at the garage. In such cases the driveway can also be covered with tree branches that grow from tress planted at regular intervals and that have a large span. if you have visited any university campus, you will notice such driveway landscaping ideas.
