Desert Landscaping Ideas

If the climatic conditions around your home are hot and extremely sunny then you must first plan for the garden with good amount of research. The reason behind this is, as per nature's law it is not a very ideal place to grow a good garden with lots of colorful flowering plants all times of the year. but by taking the decision to grow a garden in desert you are actually challenging the natural forces which can be quite expensive if done casually.

It is not like planting a plant and watering it everyday to expect a beautiful garden in your home yard. There are many factors involved in that can drastically affect your desert landscaping ideas.

The most important aspect in a desert is the quality of soil. The soil in the desert is alkaline in nature, so in order to use it for landscaping you will have to use additives so that it becomes capable of receiving and holding enough water into it which is necessary for healthy growth of the plant.

The second factor that can directly affect your desert garden is wind. Wind speeds in desert are so high that it can easily blow away your newly planted garden in mere hours. To avoid this you will have to create temporary or even permanent partition walls that can redirect the wind direction away from the group of plants. This must be thought during design phase and with careful examination of the site conditions. This can be done by actually visiting the site and noting down wind directions, wind speeds, etc.

The third important factor is the protection from extreme sunlight. You actually can never avoid this, because extreme temperatures is the primary case of the surroundings. To be very simple here don't expect a wonderful garden like the you will have in Switzerland in desert landscaping. You can do that but requires very careful and robust irrigation system in place. Water conservation and it's efficiency is the key to beautiful desert garden. To start with you can choose the native plats first. Because these plats are used to such kind of climate and will easily grow without much maintenance and then move on to other types of plants with step by step scheduling.

Desert landscaping ideas are easy to execute if done with patience and planning. I hope this article was informative.
